The delegation of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council visited Hungary

The business delegation of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council visited Hungary on 20-22 March 2019, with the aim of learning more about the Hungarian investment opportunities and potential business partners.

The leader of the prominent delegation of HKTDC – consisting of approximately 30 business managers specializing in finance, infrastructure development, insurance, legal, accounting, technology and trading – was Mr Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong SAR government. Hungary is Hong Kong’s 30th largest trading partner: in 2018 the total trade volume between the two countries added up to 2.319 million USD, resulting in a growth of 13.2 percent at an annual rate.

The programme of the delegation comprised a meeting with Mr Péter Szíjjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary and Mr Gábor Gion, State Secretary of Finance of Hungary.

The guests from Hong Kong visited the Rail Cargo Terminal - BILK, the leading terminal for combined transport in Hungary, which functions as a strategic hub in the freight traffic between Asia and Europe. The delegation was welcomed by Mr Bernhard Ebner, Business Unit Manager Intermodal of the Rail Cargo Group and Mr Viktor Lippai, Member of the Board of Rail Cargo Terminal - BILK. In the name of the delegation Mr Edward Yau greeted the guests.

Mr Bernhard Ebner introduced the international activity of the Rail Cargo Group, its comprehensive network and its important role in the European and transcontinental rail freight transport. Mr Viktor Lippai presented the operation of the terminal, its infrastructure and direct relationship with the most important ports of Europe.

The members of the delegation showed great interest in the presented information and had several questions at the end.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council aims for promoting the development of trade in Hong Kong and supporting Chinese companies, especially the small and medium-sized enterprises in the establishment of business relationships in the international markets. During the two-day programme, next to the government meetings the delegation only payed a visit to two companies, hence we can be really proud that special interest was devoted to the Rail Cargo Group.
