RCH participated in the Sustainability Week

The Sustainability Week was organized in 2016, in the week of Earth Day, for the first time in Hungary with the participation of 60,000 students from 700 schools.

The initiative aims to supply younger generations with useful knowledge in order to strive more consciously for environmentally friendly solutions in everyday life.

Rail Cargo Hungaria took part in the eco-friendly initiative for the first time in 2019. This year, due to the pandemic, in the scope of online classes we presented rail as a sustainable and environmentally friendly transport solution for ninth graders at our four partner schools.

Via Microsoft Teams and Google Meet 226 students and their teachers participated in the lessons, during which they could listen to presentations of our colleagues and then test their knowledge in an interesting online quiz.

For our company, the thematic week was an excellent opportunity to introduce the everyday tasks of rail to young people using practical examples, highlighting the aspects that make its operation eco-friendly. These include noise reduction initiatives (quiet tracks), less air pollution compared to road transport, converting back braking energy or open railroad tracks that support the maintenance of biodiversity.

Both the students and the teachers gave positive feedback on the special lessons. Rail Cargo Hungaria will continue to utilize every opportunity to work with educational institutions and share the latest knowledge available regarding the continuously evolving rail freight sector.
