Strategic cooperation agreement – between the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and the Rail Cargo Group

The document was signed by Minister dr. László Palkovics, Imre Kovács, Chairman of the Board of Rail Cargo Hungaria and Member of the Board of Rail Cargo Austria AG and Norbert Körös, CEO of Rail Cargo Hungaria.

In the cooperation all Hungarian companies of RCG are involved: Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt., Rail Cargo Carrier Kft., Rail Cargo Logistics - Hungaria Kft., Rail Cargo Operator - Hungaria Kft., Rail Cargo Terminal - BILK Zrt. und Technical Services Hungaria Járműjavító Kft.

The agreement strengthens the long-term engagement of RCG for enhancing the competitiveness of the Hungarian economy. Both parties aim to increase rail freight’s share and hence ensure sustainable mobility in the logistics sector.

RCG will remain available with its comprehensive rail logistics services – with special regards to singe wagon transport –, further improving their quality with continuous developments and guarantees the allocation of the necessary personnel resources. Another important component of the agreement is the promotion of eco-friendly freight transport and hence RCG will enhance its services connected to combined transport. ITM supports the implementation of both intentions by reviewing the possibility of targeted support in the intermodal transport sector. In case of a positive assessment, necessary measures will be taken by the Ministry to ensure the approval of the European Union.

RCG plans continuous investments to establish the Middle and Southeast European know-how of the concern in Hungary. The company will further develop its freight wagon fleet and the Ministry is ready to facilitate and support the utilization of direct funding of the European Union.

The agreement comprises most divisions of the Hungarian rail logistics sector in order to support the sustainability of rail freight transport and to ensure a long-term competitive advantage compared to the other, less eco-friendly transport modalities. The preparation and professional drafting of the agreement will be realized with a joint working group to facilitate the operative implementation of strategic targets.
