The construction of the planned riverbed sill on the Paks section of the Danube is of strategic importance for maintaining the continuity and security of Hungary’s energy supply. Rail freight transport plays a key role in ensuring the rapid delivery of the substantial volume of rock material required for the project. The transports that have now begun represent the rail-based implementation of the logistical support previously offered by Rail Cargo Hungaria and the Waberer’s Group.
To ensure the efficient implementation of the project, Rail Cargo Hungaria Plc., PSP Rail Ltd., the railway logistics subsidiary of the Waberer’s Group, MÁV Plc., Swietelsky Magyarország Ltd., and Swietelsky Vasúttechnika Ltd. have developed a coordinated rail logistics solution to transport the rock material donated from Zemplénkő Ltd.’s quarry in Sárospatak to Paks.
Rail Cargo Hungaria has undertaken the transportation free of charge from Szerencs station, providing the necessary freight wagons and traction services. The first train – to be followed by further trains – has already arrived at its destination in Paks. By coordinating their available capacities, infrastructure and professional expertise, the participating companies are contributing to the rapid and efficient delivery of the large volume of rock material.
MÁV Plc. has also made a significant contribution to the success of the initiative by exempting these transports from infrastructure access charges and other related fees.
