Rail4Regions – a workshop to increase single wagonload traffic

On 21 November, Kornélia Polcz, Head of Corporate development department of RCH organised a workshop at our headquarters in the framework of the Rail4Regions (R4R) project, which aims to develop proposals to shift freight traffic to rail, i.e. to increase the volume of goods transported by rail.

As an important part of the project, participants study single wagonload traffic and its sustainability. The agenda of the meeting focused on the challenges, regulation, consequences of a possible termination, related support and cooperation and the areas for action.

The event was attended by representatives of Ministry of Construction and Transport, MÁV, GYSEV, CER, MMV, Hungarian Railway Association, Hungrail, our partner UD Stahl Recycling Ltd., so all relevant stakeholders from the government (decision makers), infrastructure managers, rail freight companies and their representatives, as well as customers participated in the meaningful discussion.

The experts present were engaged in a constructive and cooperative exchange of views and ideas. Their contributions confirmed, among other things, the need for infrastructure development, the importance of building sidings, the role of modern equipment and interoperability in boosting competitiveness compared to the road transport.

Participants agreed that an active dialogue among the partners is a useful forum to promote the single wagonload services and decided to continue the workshop next year.
